On Monday, Starbucks celebrated the graduation of 1,100 Starbucks partners (employees) graduating from Arizona State University with 100% upfront tuition coverage from Starbucks. This class brings the total number of Starbucks College Achievement Plan (SCAP) graduates to nearly 20,000, with another 27,000 partners currently enrolled.
SCAP reflects Starbucks commitment to building opportunity for our partners:
- About 13% of Starbucks U.S. workforce now participates in SCAP, six times the Fortune 500 average, with participation up 60% over the past five years.
- SCAP scholars graduate at an 80% rate, 16 points higher than the national average for bachelor’s students.
- More than 20% of coffeehouse leadership roles and 13% of early-career corporate roles are filled by SCAP participants and graduates.
- Two-thirds of graduates say they likely would not have earned a degree without the program, and three-quarters report career growth after graduating.
In Washington, 45 Starbucks partners graduated this week and 1364 partners/students are currently enrolled.
SCAP was launched in 2014 as a first-of-its-kind partnership with ASU, and it remains one of the most comprehensive education benefits in retail: eligibility for partners working 20+ hours a week, access to more than 150 online degree programs, and added support through advising, coaching, tutoring, accessibility services and Pathway to Admission, which has helped more than 6,000 partners gain college eligibility.
