“Today’s 6–3 Supreme Court decision, with the majority including justices appointed by President Trump, is a clear rebuke of the Administration’s attempt to stretch emergency powers beyond what Congress authorized.
The Court’s ruling has real consequences for Washington state businesses and consumers. We are one of the most trade-dependent states in the country, home to major agricultural exporters, manufacturers, and globally connected supply chains.
We appreciate Governor Ferguson’s strong opposition to these tariffs from the very beginning. We also want to recognize and thank the many businesses and organizations that partnered with the Governor in filing the amicus brief, working diligently and collaboratively to overturn these harmful measures.
Tariffs function like taxes. They raise costs on importers, which are typically passed along to consumers and employers. That means higher prices for everything from groceries to business equipment, at a time when affordability is already a top concern. We hope this ruling encourages the Administration to reassess its tariff strategy and pursue policies that strengthen trade, lower costs, and support Washington’s economy.”
