On April 12, Gov. Jay Inslee named Michael Fong to serve as director of the Washington State Department of Commerce.

In response, Rachel Smith, president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement.

“Mike has been a dedicated partner in laying the groundwork for a robust, equitable and inclusive economic recovery,” said Rachel Smith, president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. “That includes making sure our smallest businesses, as well as those in historically excluded communities, have the resources and support they need to thrive. I’ve had the great pleasure of working closely with Mike for 15 years – on issues ranging from homelessness to public health – and I’m thrilled that he will be bringing his wealth of experience and his strategic, collaborative approach to lead the Washington State Department of Commerce.”
