[Talking Points] Omicron, Boosters, Isolation & Quarantine, and Testing

We developed this cheat sheet to help answer questions employees may have about many of the evolving information and guidance about COVID-19. Talking Points

COVID-19 Testing Resources

We recognize that testing demand is extremely high for both appointments and in-home options through the Omicron surge.

  • Public Health has been working to order and distribute rapid in-home tests through as many avenues as possible. Until there is more supply, we’re sharing the following tips: Can’t get a test right now? Here’s what to do. (Spanish translation available at the same link.)
  • Video instructions for how to do a COVID-19 self-test are now available in ASLArabicEnglishKorean and Spanish. More languages for this series are in process and coming soon.
  • For more information about self-tests (rapid in-home tests) visit kingcounty.gov/selftest.

School Guidance from Washington State Department of Health

Public Health – Seattle & King County is accepting the new Department of Health K-12 School Guidance and we are working with school districts on implementation. Any changes to existing policies based on the new guidance will come from schools as they work to implement the changes. These two documents contain the updated K-12 School Guidance:

Booster and Vaccination Updates

Everyone ages 12 and older should get a booster. Protection against all variants is strongest for people who have had a booster shot.

Everyone ages 12 and older should get a booster dose:

  • 5 months after the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna (note: ages 12-17 can only get Pfizer)
  • 2 months after one dose of J&J
  • The Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are recommended over J&J for both initial and booster vaccinations.
  • The lowest uptake of booster shots is currently among teens and young adults, residents of south King County, and among Black and Latinx/Hispanic communities. To help address the disparity in access, we’ve increased vaccination options and availability in South King County. See below and more options at gov/vaccine.
