On January 4, Seattle City Council met to elect Councilmember Debora Juarez as the next City Council President (2022-2023). The Council also passed a resolution establishing the standing committees for 2022-2023. Below is information outlining Seattle City Council’s new committees including the chair, members, and meeting schedule of each committee.
In December, Council adopted some rule changes that are now in effect. Council Briefing will continue to be held on Mondays; however, it has moved from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Council president now has the discretion to cancel this meeting. Full Council meetings will now be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
Council has returned to a nine-committee structure, meaning each council member chairs their own committee. (Previously there were eight standing committees and one select committee). Council’s recent rule changes also made appointing alternates to committees optional (to be decided by the Council President). Councilmember Juarez chose not to appoint alternates.
