We’re pleased to introduce Recalibrate, the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program at the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

Through Recalibrate, we aim to provide Chamber members with a deeper understanding of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) topics, provide information on DEI best practices, and build connections between members engaged in this work.

You can participate in Recalibrate in a number of ways:

  • Recalibrate Symposiums Our symposiums will explore DEI best practices, such as organizational commitment and recruiting. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions and small group conversations, Chamber members will have the opportunity to learn how other organizations are executing best practices other organizations to reach DEI goals.
  • Recalibrate: Connect | Reflect This is an opportunity to discuss DEI topics, while expanding your network in a structured setting with others who are interested in this work.
  • Recalibrate Awards An awards event to honor individuals and organizations that are creating impact for a more equitable and inclusive Seattle region.
  • Recalibrate Networking a gathering of DEI organizations and affinity groups for an evening of networking and information sharing.

Wherever your organization is its DEI journey, we invite you to check out our first symposium on February 24, which will focus on defining diversity, equity and inclusion at the workplace so that your organization can set clear goals and action plans around each of these concepts. Register here for this webinar, which is free for members.

OUR COMMITMENT TO A COMPETITIVE, EQUITABLE, AND RESILIENT ECONOMY

While Recalibrate is new, our commitment to helping our members thrive in a competitive, equitable and resilient economy is one we’ve had for years. Recalibrate builds and expands on successful programs, most notably our Women In Business and Leadership Initiative, which started in 2014 with a focus on gender equity. Since then, our members?

needs around DEI programming have evolved, as we have seen in the response to programs like our DEI-focused Young Professionals Network events, as well as our webinar last year with the Seattle Storm, The Equity Game Plan: Teaming Up around Racial Justice. We are pleased to partner with our members to reflect that evolution.

Our commitment to competitive, equitable and resilient economy also runs through the full body of work we do. In our advocacy, we are committed to working with policymakers at every level of government to rebuild a thriving region, and we know that recovery necessarily requires the inclusion of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, gender-diverse, and veteran-owned businesses. We have also pledged to use our voice and influence to advance anti-racism through our organization in the following ways:

  • Use data and best practices to create systems that add a lasting anti-racist lens to Chamber operations, recruitment, retention, culture, and Board leadership in order to achieve greater diversity and representation in all of these aspects of our work
  • Make space to understand the unique needs of BIPOC-owned businesses so that we can be an effective partner and advocate for policies that support a more equitable and inclusive regional economy
  • Educate, convene, and provide impactful tools on anti-racism in the workplace
  • Amplify BIPOC voices and businesses through our programming and owned media content
  • Support BIPOC organizations through A.R.C.:
    • Awareness/amplification about their mission and work
    • Resources to make broad impact in and beyond their communities
    • Collaboration and access to opportunities for growth

Last but not least, we have convened an Equity Committee to help us map our path toward becoming an antiracist organization and to help the Chamber lead our regional business community into a more equitable economic future.

We hope that you will join us in this work, and hope to see you at an upcoming Recalibrate event.
