SEATTLE – The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce today announced Brad Tilden, Chairman and CEO of Alaska Air Group, as the 2016-17 incoming Chair of its Board of Trustees.
Tilden will serve as Vice Chair for the Chamber’s 2015-16 term, joining Chair John Schoettler, Amazon’s Director of Global Real Estate and Facilities, who started his new board position today.
“Brad’s collaborative leadership and outside-the-box thinking will be an asset to our board,” said Maud Daudon, the Chamber’s president and CEO. She remarked, “He understands the business community’s role as a problem solver and shares our vision of building a strong economy, serving as a steward for the environment, and ensuring that no one is left behind. He and John will make a formidable leadership team and we look forward to working with both of them.”
A 25-year veteran of Alaska Air Group, Tilden currently chairs the board of the Washington Roundtable. He also serves on the boards of Alaska Air Group, Pacific Lutheran University and the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pacific Lutheran University, an executive MBA from the University of Washington and is a private pilot. Tilden was also named one of the Top 50 People in Business by Fortune in 2014.
Under Tilden’s lead, Alaska Airlines is passionate about youth and education and environmental stewardship as keys to improving the communities it serves. Last year, Alaska-sponsored programs impacted the education of 1,800 students; by 2020 the airline’s education projects will reach 25,000 kids a year. In addition, the International Council on Clean Transportation has named Alaska the most fuel-efficient airline in the U.S. four years running. The airline continues to integrate sustainability and giving back to the community throughout its business practices.
“It is a privilege to work with other members of the Chamber,” said Tilden. He added, “The incredible Puget Sound area is an increasingly vibrant part of our state’s and our country’s economy. I’m excited to be in a position to work with other business, government and civic leaders to help ensure we have a region where businesses and individuals can thrive and flourish in the years ahead."
