Why Singapore?

In 50 years, the city-state of Singapore has evolved from an undeveloped country to one of the world’s fast-growing economies with one of the highest GDPs per capita. This transformation is particularly impressive for a country with limited land and natural resources.

Singapore serves as a strategic location for a number of companies in the Seattle metro region. It holds lessons for our region, especially in key areas like infrastructure, business attraction and growth, and inclusive workforce development.

Some of their accomplishments include:
• Ranked first in the world for startup talent, overtaking Silicon Valley; #12 for Startup Ecosystem (Startup Genome, 2017)
• Fastest growing customer of Washington State services exports, such as software (Trade Partnership, 2012 – 2015)
• Second in the world for ease of doing business (World Bank, 2016)
• Second most globally competitive economy (World Economic Forum, 2016)
• Second busiest port in the world behind only Shanghai in terms of tonnage handled
• Fourth fastest-growing source of foreign direct investment in the United States
