Initiative 1515 would hurt our communities and our economy by rolling back anti-discrimination protections

WashingtonWon'tDiscriminateThe Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce is one of over 200 endorsers of the Washington Won’t Discriminate campaign, which launched April 28. The campaign, a broad coalition of business, labor, elected leaders, faith leaders, law enforcement officials and more, will fight against Initiative 1515. This initiative would repeal Washington’s non-discrimination protections, which for 10 years have protected transgender men and women from unfair discrimination.

Maud Daudon, president and CEO of the Seattle Metro Chamber, said, “The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber is proud to support the Washington Won’t Discriminate campaign. We have a strong record of supporting LGBT rights, reflecting our commitment to inclusive prosperity.”

Daudon added, “Initiative 1515 would damage our communities and our economy by legalizing discrimination against our state’s transgender residents.  We’ve already seen economic consequences of similar laws in other states: I-1515 will drive away billions in economic development from businesses, tourism and conventions. I-1515 also jeopardizes federal funding for our schools, and opens up schools, businesses, and state and local governments to costly lawsuits.”
