Dear Seattle Metro Chamber members:
As we kick off our 2015-2016 fiscal year, Iím pleased to share that weíre building on a strong foundation.
Over the past year, the Seattle Metro Chamber has led efforts to move the region forward, such as:
We have many opportunities in front of us to guide the Seattle region to a bright future, including:
- The upcoming Seattle City Council elections, where we have the chance to elect progressive, collaborative leaders who are committed to a strong economy;
- The shaping of the third expansion of Sound Transitís light rail system;
- Creating a partnership to align our efforts to link education and employment, with a focus on middle-wage jobs, an effort weíll discuss further at the Regional Leadership Conference;
- Implementing 100% Talent, a voluntary, employer-led, solutions-based initiative, to address the region's gender equity challenges.
We couldnít do this work without our volunteer leaders. Iíd like to thank Steve Crown, vice president and deputy general counsel at Microsoft and our 2014-2015 chair, for all of his dedication and commitment over the past year, and I hope youíll join me in extending a warm welcome to our 2015-2016 chair, John Schoettler, director of global real estate and facilities for Amazon. And last but not least, weíre very pleased to welcome Brad Tilden, CEO of Alaska Air Group, as our 2016-2017 chair.
This is a critical time in the regionís history. We have unprecedented economic success and a desire to make sure all are included as we continue to nurture and care for this beautiful place we call home. I am looking forward to working together to help you succeed and create greater opportunities for our regionís residents.
