The Greater Seattle Chamber's central purpose is to create and protect a competitive advantage for businesses in Seattle and the region.
Specific to the 2010-2011 program year, the Greater Seattle Chamber will focus on four priorities:
LEAD THE REGIONAL ECONOMIC RECOVERY AND GROW JOBS
We will continue to aggressively advance and represent the needs of established job sectors like trade, aerospace, high-tech and tourism, and emerging sectors like global health, clean energy and interactive media. We will strengthen public understanding of the importance of a job-growing economy. We will build new coalitions to advance job creation with business, labor, government, environmental organizations and multicultural communities.
ADVANCE REGIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE
We will champion the timely and successful completion of the SR520 and SR99 Bored Tunnel projects and planning efforts for a rejuvenated open waterfront. We will actively monitor implementation of the city of Seattle’s “Walk, Bike Ride” initiative, guide potential transportation financing proposals for the 2011 legislative session, advance smart tolling and transit and make better use of our existing infrastructure. We will partner with others in the replacement of the South Park Bridge. We will support land use policy that attracts jobs, creates housing, and shows concern for the environment.
PARTNER IN REFORM OF OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM
We will work with key organizations on specific initiatives to strengthen our educational system, and advance workforce development initiatives that create and retain jobs. In addition, we will work to enhance early learning education, advance K-12 reforms with measurable outcomes, and preserve and grow investments in higher ed.
ADVANCE A PRIORITIES OF GOVERNMENT APPROACH TO GOVERNMENT BUDGETING
We will provide structural guidance to help local and state government balance budgets based on core priorities. We will advocate for a competitive and predictable tax and regulatory environment that fosters job growth and expanded capital investment.
The Chamber continues to support prudent sustainable development, urban density and affordable housing, wise investments in education and infrastructure, budget and regulatory policies that promote economic growth for our region and enhance our competitiveness in all markets—global and local alike.
